Who I am
I have spent more than a decade in Canadian commercial real estate, the last several years focused entirely on self storage. I work with owners, buyers, lenders and developers in every province, from single-site operators to institutional capital. I am based in Victoria, BC and licensed with the BC Financial Services Authority.
The research
Most of what is written about Canadian self storage is borrowed from the United States. I built this site to fix that. I maintain a proprietary census of Canadian storage facilities, publish province-by-province market reports, and write regular analysis of transactions, supply pipelines and institutional capital under Insights. The Data section carries original ownership and supply work drawn from that census, and the Self Storage Basics series is written for people looking at their first facility.
The CSSA
In 2026 I was elected to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Self Storage Association, the national body for the industry. I have been involved with the association for over a decade and hold the vendor relations mandate on the board.
What I am not
I am not an appraiser, and this site is not advice. Every figure here is published in good faith from sources I trust, and I correct errors when readers point them out. If you see one, tell me.
