On September 16, the Canadian Self Storage Association (CSSA) hosted an operator lunch in Calgary, part of its series of Alberta lunches for self storage owners and operators. The format is simple: a room full of people who run storage facilities, a good meal, and an update on where the industry is heading. They’re informal by design. Operators get to compare notes with peers, meet the people behind the facilities down the road, and hear what’s happening beyond their own market.
I was invited to present on the state of the self storage industry in Canada and in Alberta. The talk covered national trends and then zoomed in on Alberta. The full recording is below for anyone who couldn’t make it, or who wants a second look at the numbers.
Events like this are a big part of what the CSSA does. The association represents owners, operators, developers and suppliers across the country. It advocates for the industry, provides education and resources, and brings people together through regional events and its national conference. The value of membership grows as more operators take part, especially in markets like Alberta where the industry has grown quickly.
